Students in our program are active and interested! A big part of your training includes hands-on work in the classroom and in the field. We engage with the surrounding community, offering our services to become better nutrition and dietetic specialists.
“The MS-DI program has allowed me to immerse myself in the field of nutrition and
dietetics and also gain more hands-on experience in both research and clinical practice
as a future healthcare practitioner.”
Caitlin Flatley, Class of 2019
“A year ago, I completed my nine months dietetic internship program at Augusta University,
and now I am working as a clinical dietitian in New Jersey. During my time at the
internship was challenging; however, it was a valuable experience for me both personally
and professionally. This program taught me how to be resilient in unfamiliar work
environments and unexpected events. Going through less than a month of rotations with
different preceptors were like having a brand-new job every month. Without having
a weekly rotation program guide that Dr. Anglin newly created for interns would have
been difficult because the guideline helped me to follow a step by step instruction.
We also had a weekly class meeting where we can meet diverse healthcare field medical
professions (e.g., social worker, speech-language pathologist, eating disorder psychologist,
bariatric dietitian). It was a unique experience and made me realize how essential
to collaborate with other members of the healthcare that will significantly impact
an individual's health outcomes. Being away from my Jersey home, Dr. Anglin was always
available for me when I needed advice or help. I could not have done it without her
support and care. In my tough times, she continued to encourage and helped me to push
out my potentials. I am very thankful that I was chosen to do my internship at Augusta
University.”
Michelle Lee MS, RDN, LD (2017 graduate)
“I have been the Clinical Nutrition Manager here at UH for 3 years. During that time, I have hired 4 graduates of the internship. I have found them to be fully prepared to work as entry level dietitians. They are knowledgeable, but also open to continued learning and growth and have been able to jump right in and be a part of our team. I have been a preceptor for interns for over 20 years. I appreciate the changes that have been instituted since the internship came under the AU umbrella. They now do their MNT 1 rotation with an instructor who is a RD which helps them be better prepared when they start their clinical rotations. They also have access to a simulation lab to help in their training.”
Cathryne Buice, MS, RD, LD, CDE; Clinical Nutrition Manager, Morrison Healthcare at University Hospital
"In the past three years the internship has been restructured to further enhance the intern’s experience with the addition of a simulation lab, clinical faculty, as well as, greater research opportunities and resources. In 2017, the program began offering a Master – Dietetic Internship 21-month Program. As an alumni of the program and long-standing Clinical Nutrition Manager in the Augusta area, the program has served our community for many years by training outstanding Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDNs) that go on to support our local, state, and national health care communities. Over the years I have been fortunate to work with many of the Augusta University Dietetic Internship graduates and am proud to say that the program has been extremely successful in producing RDNs that are determined to use their expertise to make a meaningful contribution to their community!”
