Serving as the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Neil J. MacKinnon, the Provost of Augusta University is the Chief Academic Officer, responsible for advancing all aspects of the mission of the University, ensuring excellence and innovation in the delivery of existing knowledge and the discovery of new knowledge.
The Provost is accountable for the achievement of the university’s strategic priorities, through actively engaging in planning and resource allocation to deliver tangible results and provide a foundation for future prosperity.

As Augusta University pursues its mission of teaching, research and public service, the provost is leading several initiatives to enhance the excellence, impact and reach of our work. These multi-year initiatives involve faculty, students, staff and community members working together to find solutions to university issues.
In summer 2021, President Keel, upon the recommendation of Provost MacKinnon, agreed to support a strategic new university initiative called Augusta University Online as one of the university’s primary new initiatives moving forward. This initiative will provide new central infrastructure and support to create a high-tech, high-touch approach for AU’s online students.
Creating an institutional framework for determining faculty workload and identify next steps for implementing processes, procedures, and policies for assigning and managing workload.
Providing eligible Augusta University faculty members with leadership and administrative experiences to prepare a pipeline of future academic administrators and leaders at AU.
The Regents' Entrepreneur designation may be granted by the Board of Regents to an outstanding full-time tenured faculty member who has an established reputation as a successful innovator and who has taken their research into a commercial setting.
Regents' Professorships are bestowed by the Board of Regents on truly distinguished faculty whose scholarship or creative activity is recognized both nationally and internationally as innovative and pace-setting.
Announcing grant funding opportunity to invite and support multi-disciplinary collaborative partnerships that investigate issues around access to care, experiential learning, and connectivity in rural communities.
The Student Research Program (SRP) is an initiative funded by the Augusta University Provost office, intended to encourage outstanding research, scholarship, and creative activities by AU Students.
