All study abroad programs vary in price. Please note that the program cost reflected on the page does not include tuition and/or fees for the semester of study. While many programs include daily breakfasts or a few meals, you will also need to bring spending money during your travels.

The Model United Nations program to New York City, NY awards scholarships of up to $1,000 for students participating in the program. The scholarship application is due by November 30, 2024.
We are highly invested in helping our students study abroad. The most common hurdle students face is funding their study abroad program. Our office aims to mitigate those costs through scholarships. You can help our students gain access to high-impact global experiences by contributing to our Study Abroad Fund. We (and the students especially) are grateful for any amount of support!
Veterans may be able to use Veteran Affairs (VA) Educational Benefits to pay for study abroad courses, but certain restrictions apply.
The VA Educational Benefits will cover a course that is required for completion of a degree plan. These courses will be listed in your degree plan in JagTrax. However, these courses can be paid for by the VA if a course substitution is approved. To complete a course substitution, visit the academic department of your major or Academic Advising (if you currently have less than 60 credit hours). Turn in the completed Course Substitution Request Form (which can be found on our FAQ page) to the Registrar's office and inform your VA School Certifying Official. VA will only pay tuition and mandatory fees associated with the course, they will not pay for any travel related costs.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year. Eligible study abroad programs must begins between May 1st and June 30th (of the following year). The deadline to submit a completed application and supporting materials is typically in early March.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The Gilman International Scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). Since
the program's inception in 2001, the Gilman Program has awarded over 15,000 U.S. undergraduates
of high financial need to study and intern abroad in over 130 countries from more
than 1,100 institutions.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship
The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.
Eligible branches include Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Coast Guard, Coast Guard Reserve, Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy, Navy Reserve, Space Force, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and USPHS Commissioned Corps.
Applicants must be recipients of any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving Title IV federal financial aid during their study abroad program or internship.

Fund for Education Abroad
FEA is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships. The funding amount can reach up to $10,000.
Study abroad programs eligible for the FEA scholarship must be at least 28 days in length.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships
Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations. Undergraduate students can receive up to $20,000 for an academic year's study abroad and graduate students up to $30,000 for language study and international research. In exchange for funding, recipients commit to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year.

Diverse International Women of Color Scholarship
The Diverse International Women Of Color Study Abroad Scholarship is intended to assist women of color who are exceptional in their studies and in need of financial assistance to study abroad.
DIWC will award two (2) $500 scholarships to women of color who have been accepted to a Summer Study Abroad Program.

Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) summer program is a fully-funded overseas intensive language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 14 critical languages (see below). CLS provides study opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning.

The CLS Program seeks participants with diverse interests, from a wide range of fields of study and career paths. Participants are selected based on their commitment to language learning and plans to apply their language skills to their future academic or professional pursuits.

CLS Spark
Developed by the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, CLS Spark provides American students the opportunity to study critical languages virtually. This 8-week summer program allows students to have immersive language and cultural experiences with international communities. Participants will spend the summer learning either Arabic, Chinese or Russian through online classes and activities facilitated by native speakers at a host institution abroad.
Participants in CLS Spark will receive automatic consideration as semifinalists for the CLS Program’s overseas summer institutes, if they choose to apply. Following the end of the spring term, CLS will offer accepted participants additional pre-departure instruction through small classes or tutoring to prepare them for an immersive, in-person study abroad experience.

The Going Abroad Scholarship by GOING (formerly Scott's Cheap Flights)
The Going Study Abroad Scholarship is open to any full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is a U.S. citizen and/or resident. Awardees will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used for any study abroad or travel costs. Going will reopen the scholarship application in late January, 2023. To apply, students must submit a video essay of 3-4 minutes in length. All applicants must be planning to study abroad within a year from the date of submission.

Rotary International Scholarships & Grants
The Rotary Club operates one of the largest and longest-run private study abroad funding programs offering up to $25,000 in scholarships to fund one year of academic study, room and board, and other associated expenses. They offer two types of scholarships:
Rotary clubs offer scholarships for secondary, undergraduate, or graduate study. Rotary club scholarships are given by individual clubs and are open to anyone except Rotary members and their families. The Rotary Foundation offers scholarships for college graduates and professionals to study peace and conflict resolution. Rotary peace fellowships are available to candidates who want to participate in a master’s degree or certificate program at one of our six partner universities. Tortuga Scholarship
The Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded biannually to passionate students who want to explore the world.
The winner of the Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship for studying abroad and a travel backpack. Eligible applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or currently studying in the United States on a student visa; a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at a four-year, degree-granting college or university in the United States; and have applied to or been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by your college or university.

Bridging Scholarship Program (Japan)
The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs in Japan. The next competition for Bridging Scholarships will be for students who will study in Japan each term. Please see "Instructions for Applicants" at their website.
Freeman Asia
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Each award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc.
Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

BUTEX (United Kingdom)
Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad in the U.K. for a semester
or a whole academic year, and students undertaking an overseas internship placement
of varying lengths of time. The value of each scholarship is £500. This will be paid to the winners once they
have arrived and registered at their host university, or confirmation of a placement
already completed has been received.
BUTEX scholarships are based on a calendar year and not the academic year. Students
who have a program that spans two calendar years (aka 1 academic year) will be able
to apply in each year, but can only win a BUTEX scholarship once.
Applications typically open in August; the deadline for all applications is June 15th of the following year.

The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) is a German scholarship for students applying for:
Students are awarded a DAAD scholarship to study courses that are taught in both German and English languages. Highly qualified final year undergraduate students or those who have received an undergraduate degree (any discipline) may apply for the DAAD Study Scholarship.
Approved degree or study programs are those that have a duration of more than a year and less than three years.

Walter Jensen Fellowship (France) & Mary Sibley Fellowship (France, Greece)* *Doctorate candidates only
The Phi Beta Kappa Walter J. Jensen Fellowship is awarded for at least six continuous months of study in France and carries a stipend (adjusted annually for inflation) of $16,900. It is typically paid in two installments; 1) when travel to France is planned/booked, and 2) when a final report is submitted to Phi Beta Kappa. The Fellowship also includes funding for a single round-trip, economy-class ticket for the recipient to travel to France.
The proposed course of study may be independent research or part of an accredited academic program. Applicants are not required to be members of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

The Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship is awarded to women pursuing graduate work in one of two fields of study, French or Greek, with the experience of researching and living abroad. Awards alternate annually between the fields of Greek and French. The award may be used for the study of Greek culture (e.g. language, literature, history, archaeology), or the study of French language or literature. It carries a stipend of $20,000 and is not restricted to members of Phi Beta Kappa or to U.S. citizens. The stipend is typically paid in two installments; 1) on July 1 of the award year, and 2) on January 1 of the following year.
