Augusta University Government-ready Experts in Resilient CyberAI (AUGER CyberAI)
The federal CyberAICorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS) Program, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, is dedicated to recruiting and training
the next generation of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence professionals.
The SFS program provides scholarships for up to three years of support for cybersecurity
and artificial intelligence education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, among
other incredible benefits available to student scholars.
Augusta University's Scholarship for Service program, AUGER (Augusta University Government-ready
Experts in Resilient CyberAI), will support undergraduate and graduate students through
interaction with government and industry partners, involvement in research, and participation
in outreach activities. AUGER CyberAI scholars at Augusta University will be paired
with a faculty member for mentorship opportunities by participation in activities
such as BSides Augusta and collaborating on research together.
Scholarship for Service Program Benefits:
Receive up to three years of support for undergraduate and graduate education.
Scholars will receive stipends of $27,000 per year for undergraduate students and
$37,000 per year for graduate students.
Tuition and education-related fees will be covered for the SFS scholar.
Receive a professional allowance of $6,000 to attend the SFS Job Fair and other travel,
professional certification expenses.
Participate in virtual and in-person job fairs in Washington, D.C.
Scholars will receive hands-on experience in a post-graduation government service
requirement for a period of time equivalent to the scholarship.
Maintain full-time enrollment and the required GPA.
Complete the required coursework in both cybersecurity (at least four courses) and
AI (at least two courses).
Participate in qualified summer internships related to AI or cybersecurity.
Participate in required mentoring, research, professional-development, and cohort
activities.
After graduation, work in an approved government AI or cybersecurity position for
at least the duration of the scholarship.
Repay all or part of the scholarship if academic, program, or service requirements
are not fulfilled, subject to applicable federal provisions.
Application Information
We will start recruiting in August 2026 for students who are currently in their junior
or senior year of undergraduate education, or graduate school in Fall 2026. Completed applications must be submitted by 31 August 2026. Final selection for the
Fall 2026 cohort is planned to be complete by 15 September. SFS Scholars tuition and
fees starting in Fall 2026 will be reimbursed by the SFS Program.
Prospective SFS applicants must meet the following requirements:
United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
Ability to obtain high-level security clearances required for potential jobs and internships.
Enrollment as a full-time student at Augusta University and be within three years
of graduation of a bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree with a cybersecurity and
artificial intelligence focus. All SFS scholars must complete four cybersecurity course
and two artificial intelligence courses prior to graduation. Eligible degree programs
are: BS Computer Science, BS Cyber Operations, BS Cybersecurity, BS Cybersecurity
Engineering, BS Biomedical Systems Engineering, BS Data Science, MS Computer Science,
and PhD Computer and Cyber Sciences.
Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA and a 3.2 cumulative graduate
GPA.
Willingness to work for a period equal to the duration of the scholarship in the cybersecurity
and artificial intelligence missions of a government agency or other Office of Personnel Management (OPM)-approved position.
Students must submit the following items in applying for the Scholarship for Service:
Resume highlighting any education and work experience relevant to cybersecurity and
artificial intelligence. A resume template is listed below if needed.
Awards, honors, and extracurricular activities
Complete pages 2-4 of the Student Questionnaire (linked below) and read the rest of
the document (Service Agreement). You will sign the document, along with the PI, when
you are selected for the program.
Two letters of reference, at least one from a current professor. Letters of reference
should address the following items:
Academic/Work Ethic
Ability to convey ideas orally and in writing
Ability to work with others
Attributes you feel the candidate possesses that make them a strong candidate for
the Scholarship for Service program. Examples include knowledge/skills in a certain
area, leadership qualities, active participation in an organization related to their
field of study; rigorous thinking (logic and math), experience with artificial intelligence,
and coding quality/experience.
Essay questions. Please answer both questions, writing 1 to 1 ½ pages for each question.
Cybersecurity Risks in AI Systems Describe a specific situation from your coursework, employment, military service,
research, or community experience involving an AI-enbabled or data-driven system.
Explain your role, the cybersecurity risks you identified, the decisions or tradeoffs
involved, and the safeguards you would recommend. Include what you learned and what
you would do differently today.
Secure AI Workforce Development Identify a specific weakness you have personally observed in how students or professionals
are prepared for secure AI and cybersecurity careers. Propose a practical solution
involving curriculum, experiential learning, or partnerships. Explain how it could
be implemented,how success would be meaured, and how your own background would allow
you to contribute.
Each essay should be written in a professional tone to demonstrate knowledge of professional
skills and terminology in describing real life events and plans.
In addition to these items, an in-person interview will also be conducted with the
scholarship candidate.
