The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session. 

Block 7 OBJECTIVES AND ASSESSMENTS

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 1:50 start) 

  • The interviewer will be conducting the encounter while the scribe observes.
  • Complete the SOAP presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session.

SP VISITS     SOAP PRESENTATION DEBRIEF  EPIC ACCESS TELEHEALTH NOTE FEEDBACK SURVEY

Clinical Procedures  (1:00 & 1:50 start) 

  • Glucose finger stick as a group then review previous procedures(EKGs, ultrasound guided needle placement, videos on NGs and foley catheters, placing IVs/IOs)

2:40 PM

Aorta (with measurements) & Gallbladder Long

  • M1s will obtain the following images on their partner: transverse proximal aorta, mid aorta, distal aorta, longitudinal aorta, and gallbladder
  • Pull up the Ultrasound Debrief Survey priot to scanning. This will contain example images and videos on how to obtain the ultrasound images
  • Make sure to include an anterior to posterior measurement of each transverse aorta image*
  • Consent your partner prior to obtaining images. SPs are available to be scanned as well
  • Have your images reviewed by a faculty member and submit the debrief survey prior to leaving clinic. **Faculty must watch you obtaian 1 of your 4 images**
  • Email yourself the longitudinal aorta image for your potst-quiz in D2L

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

REFRESH

  • Review the SOAP presentation video
  • Review PCL Note Template with additions specific for primary care and chronic conditions] and Example Note that follows this template
  • Review Telehealth Exam
  • Review 'Follow up' Chronic Issue Note

PREWORK REQUIRED

  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telehealth visit
  • Review SP visit summary in case your patient cancels or is a "no show".
  • Recommend reviewing and choosing a chronic abdominal complaint to review if possible (Example: GERD, chronic pancreatitis, Fatty Liver, Constipation, IBS)
  • Review Telemedicine Abdominal Exam Video and Joint Society Virtual Physical Exam Tips

POSTWORK

  • Recorders must complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor and partner in a [secure] email.  
  • Complete the Clinical Experience Post-Visit Survey.
  • If any of the above is not completed on time you will lose professionalism points.

  • NOTE: Choose optional reading based on your chronic or acute issue discussed with patient as well as screening condition your decided to cover.
  • Symptoms to Diagnosis: Part 3 Abdominal Pain (Recommended Common Chronic Issue Sections include 14,16, 20, 21 - Chronic Pancreatitis, IBS, Nephrolithiasis, PUD)
  • In the Clinic: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (2018)
  • In the Clinic: GERD (2015)
  • In the Clinic: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (2017)
