Protected Education Time

Residents have protected time every week for formal classroom education. Our didactics are held each Friday morning from 7:30 - 10:00 AM.

• The First Friday of each month is dedicated to Simulation Teaching
• The Second, Third, and Fourth Fridays of each month provide teaching on various topics from general obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialities.
• Occasional Fifth Fridays throughout the year are dedicated to the ACOG/CREOG Wellness Curriculum

Our Didactic Lectures are led by Attending Physicians, Fellows, and Expert Healthcare Staff from our hospital and medical community.

On occasion, residents are expected to lecture, as a significant part of residency is comprised of teaching medical students and eventually junior residents when one advances through the program.

Our program also utilized the Augusta University's Simulation Lab. This state of the art facility enables resident training on birthing and Maternal Simulators. Drills of various scenarios may be run with the simulators and resident education is significantly advanced with their use. In addition running drills with the simulator, other obstetrics drills are run in the department. Residents are expected to lead these drills in an effort to advance their education and leadership skills. Examples of drills include postpartum hemorrhage and shoulder dystocia.
