Bachelor of Science in Health Services
The Bachelor of Science in Health Services is an open-degree undergraduate program. “Open-degree” means that students will be able to declare the degree upon matriculation to the university. The program will provide knowledge and skills in healthcare delivery, leadership, cultural competency, global health, bioethics, statistics, and research/innovation. The purpose of the BSHS is to prepare individuals ready to assume medical and healthcare jobs in health services administration. The program curriculum includes courses taught on both the Summerville and Health Sciences campuses.
The US Department of Labor projects that job opportunities for medical and health services management will increase by 29% nationwide and 23% in Georgia. Predicted growth for the industries employing the most health services managers in Georgia are as follows: Social assistance (51%), Healthcare (25%), Education services; state, local, and private (19%), and Finance and insurance (7%).
New Program
Pre-Speech Language Pathology Concentration
The Pre-Speech Language Pathology (Pre-SLP) concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Health Services is designed for students who plan to pursue a graduate degree in speech-language pathology while earning a versatile undergraduate degree in health services.
This concentration provides the prerequisite coursework required for application to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program. Students gain a strong foundation in communication sciences, human development, anatomy and physiology, and evidence-based health practices—preparing them for competitive graduate study and meaningful careers in healthcare and education.
By combining specialized Pre-SLP coursework with a comprehensive health services curriculum, graduates are equipped with the academic preparation for advanced study and the practical knowledge needed to succeed in healthcare environments. The career outlook for both health services managers and speech language pathologists exceeds average growth at the state and national levels.
