Communication Minor

Majoring in something else but wishing you could take more communication classes? A minor in Communication gives you the chance to take the classes you want to learn video production and editing, investigative reporting and writing, social media and public relations campaigns, podcasting, persuasion, health communication, photography, sports broadcasting, or any other practical courses Communication can teach you.

Having a communication minor on your resume is a benefit when you pursue a career. Employers value good communication ability when they are hiring new graduates. So how do you get a communication minor?

How to earn a Communication Minor

You will need to complete six classes in communication (18 hours):

  • Choose two of three COMM 2000 foundational courses found on the Course Catalog Communication Minor page
  • Choose any four 3000 or 4000 level communication classes you can find on the Course Catalog Communication Major page

Review our Communication Minor Checklist

A grade of C or better is required for all work in the minor. Courses taken to satisfy Core Areas A through E may not be counted as coursework in the minor.

Be sure to also check out our professional certificates in Media Production or Public Relations. You may be able to double up and get one of these certifications while you earn your communication minor!

Email or call us if you have any further questions about the minor.
