Bows and Blunted Scissors: works by Ali Hval

 March 19 - May 8, 2026

Reception: Thursday,March 19, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art at Augusta University presents Bows and Blunted Scissors, a solo exhibition by Ali Hval, on view from March 19 to May 8, 2026. A public reception will be held on Thursday, March 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Working across ceramics, fabric, and installation, Hval creates oversized, highly decorative sculptures that explore femininity, identity, and cultural expectation. Her glittering surfaces and playful materials draw viewers in while revealing layered narratives of feminist critique, humor, and personal experience.

Our Location

Washington Hall

We are located on the ground floor of Washington Hall on the Summerville Campus. When you enter through the main gate you arrive at a round-about, do almost a full turn around, and then turn to the right (a sign says Washington Hall). The road will turn slightly to the right and you will see a medium height brick building with a fortress jagged roof-line on your left side. This is Washington Hall. The entry that leads to the gallery is the one you see first as you approach the building.
