A Lesson in Humility: works by Katie Hargrave + Meredith Laura Lynn

The Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art at Augusta University presents A Lesson in Humility, an exhibition of collaborative works by artists Katie Hargrave and Meredith Laura Lynn, on view October 22 through December 4, 2026. An opening reception will be held Thursday, October 22, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., with both artists in attendance.

Working across video, sculpture, photography, textiles, installation, and other media, Hargrave and Lynn use research, personal experience, and humor to explore relationships between people, landscape, public lands, and American outdoor culture. Their collaborative work considers ideas of expertise, recreation, access, and belonging while questioning familiar assumptions about how landscapes are represented and experienced.

Hargrave and Lynn have collaborated since 2018. Katie Hargrave is Department Head and UC Foundation Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Meredith Laura Lynn is MFA Program Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Art at Florida State University.

The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Our Location

Washington Hall

We are located on the ground floor of Washington Hall on the Summerville Campus. When you enter through the main gate you arrive at a round-about, do almost a full turn around, and then turn to the right (a sign says Washington Hall). The road will turn slightly to the right and you will see a medium height brick building with a fortress jagged roof-line on your left side. This is Washington Hall. The entry that leads to the gallery is the one you see first as you approach the building.
