Thank you, Dr. Bhalla, for your generosity!
Dr. Vinod Bhalla was a Physiology and Endocrinology faculty member under former Chair
Dr. Virendra B. Mahesh and generously donated to three departments at Augusta University,
the departments of Physiology, Oncology, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
The Department of Physiology was granted a $50,000 endowment titled “The Mr. Sohrab
Modi and Mr. and Mrs. Lal C. Bhalla (Shanti) Endowment Fund” from Dr. Bhalla. This
donation was made in honor of Dr. Bhalla’s mentor and parents. The fund will supplement
research expenses and support graduate, MD, and PhD students.

Dr. Mamenko received an R01 grant from the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases entitled "Sex disparities in aldosterone-dependent renal Na+ transport and blood pressure control."

Dr. Filosa received a R56 grant from National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke entitled "The impact of blood pressure variability on neurovascular function."
Elinor Mannon, a graduate student in Dr. O'Connor's lab, received a Kidney Cure Pre-Doctoral Fellowship from the American Society of Nephrology.

Dr. Filosa received an Intramural Grants Program Award entitled "The Impact of Blood Pressure Variability on Neurovascular Function."
Dr. Filosa received a collaborative Augusta University and Georgia State University Seed Award entitled "Inverse neurovascular coupling in the hypothalamus contributes to neurohumor all activation in heart failure."

Lindsey Ramirez, graduate student in Dr. Sullivan's lab, and Dr. Jessica Faulkner took top honors for the Water & Electrolyte Homeostasis WEHH) section at American Physiological Society as the winners of the pre- and post-doctoral excellence in research.
Katie Anne Fopiano, a graduate student in Dr. Bagi's lab, received an Excellence in Research award from The Graduate School.
Dr. John Henry Dasinger, a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Mattson's lab, won first place for the Excellence in Research Award for a poster presentation by a Postdoctoral Fellow from The Graduate School.
Dr. Ellen Gillis, a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Sullivan's lab, won second place for the Excellence in Research Award competition for an oral presentation by a Postdoctoral Fellow from The Graduate School.
Emily Burns, a graduate student in Dr. Mattson's lab, received the Award for Excellence in Research Award in Physiology from The Graduate School.

Kasey Belanger, a graduate student in Dr. Sullivan's lab, received the Virendra B. Mahesh Award for research excellence in Endocrinology by a graduate student from Augusta University Research Administration.
Dr. Riyaz Mohamed, an Assistant Research Scientist in Dr. Sullivan’s lab, has been selected to receive the 2021 Water & Electrolyte Homeostasis Research Recognition Award.

Casey Derella, a graduate students in the Dr. Ryan Harris lab, was awarded an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship.
Elinor Mannon and Sarah Ray, both graduate students in Dr. O'Connor's lab, were awarded American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowships.
Sarah Ray, a graduate student in Dr. O'Connor's lab, received a National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases F31 entitled "Red blood cell congestion in AKII to CKD transition."
The Physiology Department won the American Heart Association Heart Walk 2021 competition by raising the most money for the Graduate School team.
Elinor Mannon, a graduate student in Dr. O'Connor's lab, received the American Physiological Society Predoctoral Translational Research Award and the American Physiological Society Water and Electrolyte Homeostasis Research Recognition Award.
Dr. O'Herron received an R03 grant from the National Institute on Aging entitled "The impact of reduced blood flow early in Alzheimer's disease on neuronal function."

Dr. Mohamed received a Career Development Award from American Heart Association entitled "Role of established hypertension in impaired renal recovery and function postAKII in hypertensive males and females."
