The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has published a new rule ending Duration
of Status (D/S), which changes how periods of authorized stay are determined for F-1
Students and J-1 Exchange Visitors. Please note that this change will not take effect
until 60 days after publication, which is September 15, 2026.
We are carefully reviewing the final rule to assess any changes from the proposed
rule, determine its impact on F-1 Students and J-1 Exchange Visitors, and implement
appropriate processes and procedures moving forward.
We will provide additional information and more detailed guidance soon. You can read
the final rule in the Federal Register.
