I have taught at Augusta University First Year Composition after years of teaching Advanced Academic Writing, English Composition, Introduction to Literature, an Introduction to Linguistics, among others, in different higher education institutions. With constant change in technology, I have found myself adopting various teaching approaches to help students improve critical thinking and writing skills. Recently, I have used an adapted version of quizzes in my composition courses and have been working on incorporating games and storytelling in my future composition courses. These approaches, utilizing quizzes and gamification/storytelling, have two specific goals: to improve students’ critical thinking and writing skills and to prevent students from using artificial intelligence uncritically. These approaches have been my research focus as well.
I have been working on three research agendas:
1. Students’ perception of professors and its impact on their interest in learning in general
and improving Writing Skills in particular
2. Students’ past experience of learning and its 2. Impact on their attitude toward and
writing.
3. Frequent tests in writing courses and the impact on student confidence and writing
skills.
I am also working on utilizing games and storytelling in writing courses to enhance students’ critical thinking and writing skills.
