Bio

I got my MD in 1993, and Ph.D in 2002, I got my postdoctoral training in Dr. M. Ian Phillips's lab in University of Florida and University of South Florida, I got my 1st faculty position in University of South Florida in 2004, I was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008 in Keck Graduate Institute, and then recruited to University of Cincinnati as tenure track associate professor in 2009, and then recruited to Medical College of Georgia, GRU in 2013. My lab is focused on stem cell biology and epigenetics.

Research Interests

My primary research goals are to identify the molecular mechanisms of stem cell-mediated cardiovascular protection and muscle regeneration. More specifically, we are interested in (1) cross-talking between HIF-1α and Notch signaling in homing, survival, and differentiation of stem cells; (2) EVs-mediated survival signaling in stem cell-mediated cardioprotection; (3) the regulation of small non-coding RNA (microRNA) and long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) in cardiac diseases; (4) cardiac differentiation of human-induced pluripotent stem cells; (4) role of HDAC11 in cardiovascular disease. I have 20-year’s interdisciplinary research experience in the mouse/rat model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion, mouse cardiovascular physiology, mouse vascular injury model, stem cell biology, molecular biology, and histology.
