Bio

I am Professor, Executive Vice Chair, and Director for Gynecological Oncology at Augusta University (Georgia Regents University (GRU) at Augusta, Georgia and have been heavily involved in clinical trials for over 16 years. I am also the Associate Cancer Center Director for Clinical Research. I sincerely believe that clinical trials and health care delivery research leads the way to improvements in patient’s outcomes in both quality of life and survival. As an oncologist, I have always strived to bring new options to our patients, educate them about the process and empower them to make choices that could better their care, and perhaps advance progress in cancer treatments. In Augusta, over 40% of our patients are African American (AA) in origin and are often underserved. The new NCORP M\U grant will help all of us in getting these patients, who often are underrepresented in clinical trials, to be a part of them. The emphasis on health care delivery and disparity research is long overdue, as emerging data is clearly showing differences in both response to treatments and access to good health care based on race, and our patient mix positions us to play an important part in this endeavor.
