I am credited with the discovery that cells in the mammalian body frequently suffer injury to their outmost covering, the plasma membrane; with the discovery that this type of injury is quite common in skeletal muscle and contributes to disease; and in elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms employed to repair this injury.
