Teaching Interests
My teaching interests are community health, public health, health policy, and research methods including qualitative and CBPR methodology. I am actively engaged in scholarly, interdisciplinary mentorship with undergraduate and graduate students
My personal teaching philosophy supports autonomy, active learning, creativity, and shared responsibility. I believe in a more autonomous style where learning can be a shared experience between the educator and student. Critical thinking and the ability to make decisions independently are some of the most important skills nursing students need to develop. I promote active learning which fosters autonomous and independent thinking. Nursing students can gain experience in making connections among concepts learned in the classroom and textbook via hands-on activities and interactive group assignments. I pursue experiential learning and received funding from Augusta University Education Innovation Fund to implement a technology based research project in the undergraduate nursing research course, NURS 3807.
