Lori Burkhead Morgan, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a clinical scientist and educator specializing in dysphagia and swallowing neuroscience. She works with critically-ill and neurologically impaired patients, advancing rehabilitation via evidence-based exercise interventions and graduate teaching.
My teaching interests focus on equipping graduate speech-language pathology students to become skilled, evidence-based clinicians in dysphagia and medically complex communication disorders. I emphasize the critical integration of current research and evidence-based practices into clinical decision-making, guiding students to evaluate scientific literature rigorously and apply validated interventions to diverse patient populations.
My scholarship emphasizes translating research findings into clinical practice, including predictive indicators of aspiration, functional outcomes and innovative approaches to optimize effortful swallowing and overall deglutitive performance. Through ongoing collaborations and publications, I aim to refine rehabilitative interventions that enhance safety, efficiency, and quality of life for patients with swallowing and communication disorders.
