Research Interests

My research focuses on understanding the biological function of ubiquitin-like protein modifiers including NEDD8 and Ufm1 in cardiomyocytes, with an ultimate goal to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of heart failure and to search for novel therapeutic measures. We are particularly interested in addressing three major questions: are neddylation and ufmylation essential for cardiac function under physiological and pathological conditions? How does each modification control different cellular processes in cardiomyocyte? What proteins are targeted by NEDD8 or Ufm1 in cardiomyocytes, and how does such modification regulate the molecular function of the target? We employ in vitro molecular and cellular biology approaches, proteomics approach and the state-of-the-art in vivo mouse physiology analyses to address these questions.
