Research Interests

My experience in research is a mélange of a Master’s degree in dental biomaterials, and research work at the U.S. Army Dental and Trauma Research Detachment with the last 3 years as Commander. The detachment was the largest military dental research organization in the world with over 60 personnel and an annual budget of $4-6M. I have published on digital dentistry, ceramics, occlusion, metals and polymers. Our specialty is changing rapidly. Prosthodontists employ manufactured substitutes to replace damaged or missing biological soft and hard tissues. Dr. Thompson has authored or co-authored over 60 publications and abstracts in the scientific literature.
