Students today face an exciting, challenging world in which it can seem like things are in constant flux. People change careers multiple times over the course of their working life. Multiple viewpoints on every possible issue fill the media, from televisions to the blogosphere to the twitterverse.

Amidst all of this, however, some things remain the same, such as the value of philosophy. Philosophy, understood as the art of thinking, provides an excellent minor for today’s students. Philosophy helps one to:

  • question his or her assumptions and point of view
  • understand other points of view on fundamental issues
  • think critically
  • think morally
  • think meaningfully

Best of all, philosophy doesn’t interfere with students’ main field of study. A minor in philosophy complements any major program at Augusta University and is applicable in any human endeavor. The minor is earned by completing five philosophy courses.
