The General Surgery Residency Program at the Medial College of Georgia at Augusta University offers five categorical positions each academic year. Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Additional information regarding the program can be accessed via the American Medical Association's FREIDA online.
For the 2025-2026 interview season, applications will be accepted ONLY through ERAS and all interviews will be conducted virtually. We will have a virtual informal social gathering with only the residents the night before the interviews.
The deadline for receipt of applications is November 1, 2024. Once all applications have been received, the Selection Committee will select applicants to interview, to be placed on a waitlist or not to be interviewed. Our program uses the Thalamus scheduling system to send out invites, to schedule interviews and all other correspondence.

I had the opportunity to rotate at MCG as a Sub-I. I was immediately welcomed and made a part of the team. Now as a resident, I truly appreciate the culture; not only do we receive excellent training as surgeons, but you’re always supported by your co residents and attendings. Whether that’s sharing laughs during sign out, having food delivered when you’re on call, spontaneous pool parties when the weather is nice or asking for help when your service is busy, I know I can always count on those around me. Just to list a few reasons on why I chose MCG!

When applying for general surgery residency I wanted to match at a program with a good track record of competitive fellowship matches and graduates going straight into practice. MCG perfectly fit that mark and the current residents demonstrated that they felt confident in their skills for broad general surgery practice. I also felt incredibly supported by the faculty and residents on my sub-internship and knew it would be hard to beat the team dynamic of this program.
