What type of laptops will be offered?

Windows and Macintosh laptops are offered by Augusta University's partners, Apple and Dell. Visit our partner's sites to see at least two models for you to choose from.

What are the minimum specifications for program laptops?

The minimum specifications for program laptops can be found on the PC/Mac Minimum Hardware Specifications page.

What operating system and software will be included?

A selection of software will come loaded on laptops purchased through Dell. This software was approved by the Medical College of Georgia and ITSS as meeting the general computing requirements for your academic program and for electronic testing. A list of the included software can be found on the laptop information page.

Apple does not offer pre-imaging at this time. Apple users should refer to the laptop information page for the list of required software. Limited support is available to assist with the installation of software at the Service Desk.

Will Augusta University provide all of the software that I can access in the computer labs?

No. Only a subset of programs available in the computer labs will be licensed for use and preloaded on program laptops. Students are eligible to purchase select additional software at a discount. Your instructor will let you know if you need additional software for a class.

Will the laptops purchased through our partner program have a warranty?

With the exception of the laptop battery, which has a one-year warranty, program laptops have a three-year warranty at the time of purchase. Dell or Apple owners can elect to extend this to four years at any point during the three initial years of coverage. Warranties are not required by your program and you may opt not to purchase one. However, repair work on a program laptop is the sole responsibility of the student.

What about protection against accidental damage for my Dell or Apple laptop?

Dell laptops purchased through the program are covered for three years under the Dell Protection service Warranty. It protects against accidental damage due to power surges, drops or falls, liquid spills, and LCD damage caused by a drop or a fall. Any repairs for accidental damage covered by the Dell Protection plan are the sole responsibility of the student.

There is no accidental damage plan included for the Apple laptops. However, there are third-party policies available that you can find by searching the Web.

Note: The laptop battery has a warranty for one year only.

What about theft or fire insurance?

Dell Protection plans exclude theft, loss, or damage due to fire or intentional acts. Students are encouraged to contact their current insurance provider to as about covering the laptop under their current homeowner's, auto or renter's insurance.

Computrace LoJack for Laptops software can help recover your laptop in case it is stolen. Please see http://www.absolute.com/en/lojackforlaptops/home.aspx for more details.

What do I do if my laptop breaks?

Students may bring their laptops to the Service Desk for initial evaluation. If the problem is covered under warranty or Dell/Apple Protection, the student will be advised to contact the manufacture. A limited number of loaner laptops will be available for students whose laptops are being repaired. The loaner service will only be available on test days and only for the duration of the test.

Note: Non-Program machines can be taken to the Service Desk for limited consulting services (related to wireless/ software configuration only). You will need to contact the manufacturer for hardware support and the software technical support for software support. This link of vendors that offer computer repair services in the Augusta area is provided as a service to students. Augusta University does not recommend or endorse any vendor and receives no compensation that it is suggested to shop for computer repair shops, pricing and quality of service.
