Louis Lovett is a board-certified internist and pulmonologist who has spent most of his professional career in academic medicine. In 2012, he joined the staff at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.

In July of 2013, he became the Designated Institutional Official of Graduate Medical Education until October of 2022. He helped start and develop the Graduate Medical Education program at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, which began in July 2016. As of December 1, 2025, Dr. Lovett assumed the role of Associate Dean of the Wellstar MCG Atlanta Regional Campus.

Dr. Lovett earned a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago, followed by a doctorate in medicine from the University of Turin School of Medicine, in Turin, Italy. He returned to the United States for his primary care internal medicine residency in 1993 and Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care in 1996 at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. In addition, he completed a Fellowship in Lung Transplant at Emory University School of Medicine in 1997.

He is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians. Additionally, in 2010, he received clinical faculty appointment as an adjunct professor of medicine with the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. During his professional career he earned multiple Outstanding Educator awards and has published a variety of articles in his specialty.

Dr. Usha Anand earned her medical degree from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in India, followed by internal medicine residency training at the University of Massachusetts. In 2007, she joined the medical staff at Wellstar Health System as a hospitalist, where she has since excelled in both bedside clinical care and system-level innovation.

Throughout her tenure at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, Dr. Anand has been deeply invested in academic medicine and graduate medical education. Serving as core faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, she works closely with residents at the bedside, guiding their clinical reasoning, overseeing scholarly research, and preparing learners for presentations at regional and national forums, including the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM).

Collaborating with Dr. Louis Lovett, she also helped develop and lead regular morbidity and mortality conferences centered on systems-based practice, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. In addition to her educational roles, Dr. Anand contributed significantly to the development and implementation of the Perioperative Surgical Home program at Wellstar Kennestone, advancing multidisciplinary coordination and reliable patient care. As Vice Dean, she is dedicated to cultivating a collaborative, rigorous, and supportive academic community that empowers medical students to thrive.
