Each year, the Wilderness Medicine Program hosts a Wilderness Day (mini-MedWAR) for the emergency medicine residents at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. This one-day event enables the residents to leave the classroom and practice hands-on wilderness medicine skills in an outdoor setting. The residents are grouped into small teams, and they have to overcome common wilderness obstacles to reach each training station. This is a very popular activity that the residents look forward to each year.
Multiple opportunities for wilderness medicine research are available to residents. The following lists our current research activities:
Current wilderness medicine electives are tailored to the specific interests of the individual. For example, our most recent resident electives incorporated didactic sessions, a research initiative, and culminated in a Kilimanjaro climb and a trek to Machu Picchu. We are currently planning a trip to Everest Base camp in the spring!
