The Surgery Clerkship is a 6 week rotation consisting of two, three week rotations – one general surgery and one subspecialty or two general surgery rotations.
The clerkship takes place in various locations throughout the state of Georgia. Clerkship sites include the Augusta University and Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, St. Joseph's Candler Hospital and Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Atlanta Medical Center, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, and Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Southwest Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick and Winn Army Hospital in Ft Stewart.
The Core, General Surgical Services include GI Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Pediatric Surgery and Surgical Oncology at Augusta University and General Surgery Services at the VA, and the other hospitals listed above.
The Subspecialty Services in Augusta include Plastic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Trauma/Critical Care and Urology. This year subspecialty rotations in Cardiothoracic, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery will be offered at the Southwest Campus to the residential students there.
An orientation session for all students will be held on the first day of the surgical rotation. Students will be notified by email of the time and place.
