DCG Community Outreach Programs

The Augusta University Dental College of Georgia (DCG) Community Outreach Program connects dental students and faculty with underserved communities through events and other outreach. Our programs provide oral health education, screenings, and hygiene kits, while also expanding student training and access to dental care in rural and marginalized areas. The DCG also works with partners to address healthcare disparities and enhance the college's role as a community asset. 

Program activities

• Community events: Participates in events like the annual Back to School Bash and Peds2U clinics to offer oral health screenings, distribute dental hygiene kits, and educate families on oral hygiene.
• Partnerships: Collaborates with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs and Project Refresh to deliver health services to youth and the community.
• Student training: Provides dental students and residents with clinical experience through community outreach, which also helps expand access to care for underserved populations.
• Health screenings: Offers screenings to identify and address oral health needs, sometimes in partnership with other health screenings, as seen in the Peds2U clinic.
• Referrals and education: Provides referrals for necessary follow-up dental care and educates families on oral health importance and where to seek care.

• For those with barriers to care: The DCG Community Outreach Programs are specifically designed to address healthcare disparities and increase access to care for those facing barriers.
• Student treatment: Students provide preventive and restorative care under close faculty supervision.
• Time commitment for students: The program requires a significant time commitment from patients, and it may take several months to be assigned a student provider.
