Any course which allows for waitlisting will prompt students (when registering in POUNCE) to add themselves to the list when the course reaches the maximum enrollment. For detailed information on waitlisting, please review the information below.

WAITLISTING INFORMATION

  • Students are not allowed to waitlist for a duplicate class, meaning they cannot register for a class and waitlist for that same class. They should be encouraged to select the one class they prefer and to register or waitlist for that section (e.g. cannot register for BIOL 1101 A and waitlist for BIOL 1101 B).
  • Students cannot waitlist for multiple sections of the same class. (e.g. waitlist for BIOL 1101 A and waitlist for BIOL 1101 B).
  • Students will have 24 hours from the time the email was sent to register themselves for the waitlisted course through POUNCE. If the student does not register during the time frame (for any reason), they will be removed from the waitlist and an email notification will be sent to the next student on the list.
  • Students who receive registration errors will be unable to register for a waitlisted course unless the registration error is resolved, or permission is entered into BANNER, and the student registers in POUNCE before the 24 hour period has passed.
  • Students with holds preventing registration will be unable to register for a waitlisted course unless the hold is released and the student registers in POUNCE before the 24 hour period has passed.

FAQ - STUDENTS

A waitlist is a queue of students who could not initially register for a particular class, but are still interested in taking it should a seat become available. The waitlist allows students to take a place in line and if another student drops the class, they can register for that seat.

The waitlisting period begins the same day and time when registration opens and will last the typical length of drop/add, and will not extend any farther than normal registration.

If a class is available for waitlisting and is full when you try to register for it, you will be given the following error message: "Closed - there are # student(s) on the waitlist for this class," meaning that there are still spots open on the waitlist, or "Closed - waitlist full." meaning that there are no spots left open on the waitlist. To add a class if waitlisting is available, click the dropdown under the "action" dialogue box and select "Waitlist."

All typical registration holds or errors will prevent you from adding a waitlisted class. This includes such issues as holds, class level restrictions, and time conflicts. If there is an issue, you will be given a “registration error” message when you attempt to waitlist the class.

FAQ - FACULTY & STAFF

You can view a list of students by logging into POUNCE and selecting Summary Class List and navigating to the bottom of the page. There you can select Summary Waitlist to view the list of students currently waitlisted for the section.

No. Students add themselves to the waitlist through POUNCE on a first-come, first-served basis.

Waitlist limits may be increased; however, these requests must be sent to our office by the department chair for processing.

Maximum seats may be adjusted but this should only be done if you intend for those already on the waitlist to be included in those numbers.

No. Enrollment overrides into classes with waitlists cause technical problems within the system and for students on the waitlist.

The next student on the waitlist is notified via their University email when a seat becomes available. At that time, they should log in to POUNCE and register or drop the course. They have 24 hours after the email was sent to register before the seat is available to the next student on the waitlist.  Please see the Waitlisting FAQ for Students.
