  • Hometown: Dahlonega, GA
  • Why did you choose your degree program? I chose this program because I wanted to use my skills and knowledge in a more administrative way.  Leaders with a special education background are hard to find. I have a special education background that I feel would benefit an admin team in a positive way.
  • What words of wisdom have you learned from one of your professors? I spoke with Dr. Neal prior to enrolling in the program.  She encouraged me to use my knowledge, years of experience, and unique skillset to lead others.  She told me “go for it”. She made me feel like I could make a difference.
  • What have you found most beneficial about your program at AU? I enjoy that the classes are online and I like how they are set up in mini-mesters. I enjoy how we take shorter classes back-to-back and one long residency class.  It makes the content much more manageable and not as overwhelming having multiple classes at once.  I feel that the pace is better for me especially being a working mother.
  • Please share words of advice for someone considering this program at AU? I would tell anyone debating going for their leadership certificate to buckle up and do it.  Leaders are at an all-time shortage, and good leaders are hard to find.  Augusta’s program is very affordable, and the professors are very knowledgeable.  They want to share their knowledge and experience with you.  They are very easy to work with and want to see you learn and grow.
  • What are your career goals? My goal would be to be a special education administrator either as a special education director or assistant director.  I also have seen how much an assistant principal impacts a school and I could see myself doing that at the elementary level as well.
  • What courses in your program's curriculum stand out as most helpful for your specific career goals? The clinical residency classes (, , and ) have been super helpful. I really learned a lot in the Trends in Leadership class, and I am currently looking forward to the Law and Ethics class.
  • What AU resources have been most helpful? Since I am an online student, I have been able to reach out to Information Technology Team when I have an issue, and they are very quick to assist.
  • What do you do for fun (hobbies etc)? kayak, coach 13u softball, hike, Jeep ride, travel, visit my family, and spend time outdoors with my family.
