Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is offered to students needing health insurance coverage. If you are a student who doesn’t already have private insurance, UnitedHealthcare has two options for health insurance coverage - mandatory or voluntary.
The following groups of Augusta University students are required to have health insurance per the Georgia Board of Regents and Augusta University policies:
Student Health Services
Health Sciences Campus
AF 1040
1465 Laney Walker Blvd
Augusta, GA 30901
706-721-7468
For students (listed above) that are required by their program to have health insurance coverage.
2024 - 2025
For students that do not have private health insurance and would like to voluntarily enroll in SHIP.
2024 - 2025
2024 - 2025 Health Insurance Premiums
If you already have private health insurance and want to continue coverage under your own plan, you will need to waive coverage provided by Augusta University.
If your current insurance plan meets the minimum requirements for coverage set by the Board of Regents, your waiver application will be approved and a credit for the insurance premium will be posted to your POUNCE account.
If your waiver application is denied, refer to the Waive Coverage page for information.
Please note: Students who are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan for spring semester and are scheduled to graduate in August will have coverage extended by one month and the cost will be billed to their POUNCE account.
If you had an approved waiver and lose your current private insurance coverage during the semester, please email us at studentinsurance@augusta.edu to request enrollment in an Augusta University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
For students who are required by their program of study to have health insurance coverage, you must be registered for your classes with an active mailing/permanent US address in POUNCE before you will receive an email with the link to Opt-In to the mandatory plan. It can take up to 5 business days before the email with the link is sent.
What To Do
Students may waive mandatory insurance if they have suitable private insurance. Find out how to waive coverage.
Students who are NOT required by their program of study to have health insurance, may purchase insurance through the voluntary enrollment site.
