Website Audience

When presenting content, know that users look for specific content when they visit a webpage.

Users want to know:

  1. What is this?
  2. What can I do here?
  3. What does this website have?
  4. Why should I be here (and not somewhere else)?
  5. Where do I start?

Users leave when:

  1. A website is difficult to use
  2. The webpage is unclear or confusing
  3. They get lost
  4. The information is hard to read or does not answer their question

When you are working on your webpages, understand what the user is expecting to find and follow their expectations. They should not need to work for their information – make the content clear and concise.

Remember:

  • Users don't read - they scan. They follow their intuition, and appreciate quality and credibility
  • Users are impatient and demand instant gratification - don't waste their time by thanking them for visiting your webpage.
