It is our pleasure to serve the Augusta University/Medical College of Georgia Internal Medicine Residency Program as Chief Medical Residents for the 2023 -2024 academic year.
As recent graduates of the Augusta University IM program, we are confident in our preparation as clinicians, educators, and life-long learners. Having received so much from our training, we are dedicated to fostering an environment of professional and personal growth help residents to reach their educational and career goals.
Our current residents are hardworking, reliable, highly knowledgeable, and dedicated. The Housestaff functions as a team, routinely stepping in for each other when a need arises, in order to provide the highest level of care for our patients. Our attending physicians are also committed to the educational and career goals of residents and are routinely praised for their knowledge, availability, and enthusiasm.
Augusta University/MCG IM Residency Program offers comprehensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient medicine. Inpatient ward rotations include General Internal Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, and Cardiology. There is also exposure to critical care medicine in the Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiac Care Unit rotations. Inpatient and outpatient consultative medicine rotations in the full range of Internal Medicine subspecialties are popular elective experiences, especially because our hospital offers fellowships in nearly every Medicine subspecialty.
As upper levels, we offer a hospitalist (week on/ week off) rotation for extra Board Study time. During all three years of training, residents act as the Primary Internist for their own panel of patients seen in outpatient clinic.
All of these experiences in the setting of a tertiary care center with a diverse patient population allows for an exciting, dynamic, and productive Internal Medicine Residency. Our residents also participate in protected Academic Days for dedicated Quality Improvement projects, hands-on ultrasound training at our Ultrasound Center of Excellence, and high-fidelity simulation experiences.
The greatest strength of our program is the camaraderie between residents. This is evident by the team atmosphere experienced within the hospital and the recreational outings after work. Golfing, exploring our city's taprooms and restaurants, breakfasts after nightshifts, and kayaking at the canal are a few ways our residents enjoy spending time together. Attendings are equally approachable and can be found at many out-of-the-hospital gatherings.
In addition, Augusta boasts an outstanding medical community and offers temperate weather, minimal traffic, affordable living, and many activities including world-class golf. We are proud of our training and want to provide the best possible experience for our residents. We invite you to visit us at Augusta University, and we look forward to sharing what Augusta has to offer.
