Dr. Alyce Oliver has been the Program Director of the MCG Internal Medicine Residency since 2019 and serves as the Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Medicine. Previously, she directed the MCG Rheumatology Fellowship for seven years. Dr. Oliver is deeply passionate about teaching internal medicine and rheumatology, aiming to inspire curiosity and dedication in her students while nurturing compassionate, competent physicians ready for fellowship or independent practice.
She holds the inaugural Joseph P. Bailey, MD Chair in Rheumatology and has received numerous accolades, including the 2019 Distinguished Faculty Award in Patient Care, the 2016 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, and the 2015 Distinguished Faculty Award for Clinical Science Teaching. Inducted into the Augusta University Academy of Educators in 2013, she has also earned multiple “Exemplary Teaching Awards.” Dr. Oliver is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society, where she serves as co-councilor, and she spent five years on the FDA’s Arthritis Advisory Committee. She is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology.
Dr. Oliver completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earned her PhD and medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati and her Rheumatology Fellowship at Duke University. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Clinically, Dr. Oliver is known for her compassionate, holistic, patient-centered care, striving to improve the lives of those with rheumatic diseases. She has a reputation for providing exceptional treatment and forming long-term, trusting relationships with her patients. Her clinical interests include inflammatory arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Additionally, she co-directs the Uveitis Specialty Clinic with Ophthalmologist Dr. Diego Espinosa. She was named a Top Performer in patient experience for 2024 by Wellstar MCG Health.
In her spare time, Dr. Oliver enjoys spending time with her husband and three teenage children, exercising, traveling, and being outdoors.
