About the Pathway
To better address the physician need within underserved areas of GA, the Medical College of Georgia is introducing the Regional Clinical Campus Admissions Pathway beginning for the 2024-2025 application cycle.
Prospective students who demonstrate a passion for healthcare in underserved areas and are committed to attending either the NW or the SW regional clinical campus will be given admissions preference by the MCG admissions committee. Accepted students will matriculate to the Augusta Campus for the pre-clerkship phase of the 3+ curriculum and then transfer to the designated regional clinical campus for the clerkship and enrichment phases of the MCG curriculum. Acceptances are contingent upon attending the designated regional campus for clinical experiences.
MCG regional clinical campuses offer all required clinical experiences during the clerkship and enrichment phases of the medical education curriculum. Regional clinical campuses are strategically located to better prepare MCG students to serve the healthcare needs of Georgians. After completion of the 18-month pre-clerkship curriculum on the Augusta Campus, regional clinical campus students transfer and complete the remainder of their education on the designated regional clinical campus. Students receive mentorship, one-on-one clinical teaching, and experiences tailored to the local communities. Regional campus students have access to all MCG resources, and demonstrate exemplary equivalent board pass rates, and residency match rates.
The MCG Regional Clinical Campus admission pathway is open to all interested applicants. This pathway follows the MCG Regular Decision Timeline and maintains the same admission requirements. Primary applications must be submitted no later than November 1, 2024 and secondary applications must be submitted within two weeks of receipt. For more details on MCG application requirements, including course pre-requisites, and MCAT and Casper exam dates, please see the admissions main page. For more information on the unique offerings of the Northwest and Southwest regional clinical campuses is included in our campus links below.

Northwest - Rome/Dalton
Northwest - Rome/DaltonSouthwest - Albany
Southwest - AlbanyWho is an ideal candidate for this pathway?
An ideal candidate expresses a clear passion for caring for underserved populations. Applicants demonstrate some knowledge of healthcare challenges faced by individuals in one of these designated communities and must be committed to attending either the NW or the SW regional clinical campus for the Clerkship and Enrichment phases of the MCG curriculum.
How do I apply to the MCG regional clinical campus pathway?
Applicants will apply to MCG through the AMCAS primary application and designate "Other Special Programs." On the MCG secondary application, applicants will select either the NW or SW regional clinical campus pathway and answer additional questions pertinent to the campus of interest.
Which 4-year campus will I be assigned to for the pre-clerkship phase?
All accepted regional clinical campus pathway students will be assigned to the Augusta campus for the pre-clinical years. Pathway students will then transfer to the selected regional clinical campus for Clerkship and Enrichment phases of the medical curriculum. Acceptance is contingent upon ultimate matriculation into the designated regional clinical campus.
Can I only apply to one regional clinical campus?
Yes. Applicants must select either the NW Regional Clinical Campus or the SW Clinical Campus. Applicants will be sent an MCG secondary application with additional questions pertinent to the designated clinical campus.
Can I only apply to MCG if I select this pathway?
No. Applicants will follow the regular decision timeline and may apply to other medical schools.
What will the interview process be like if selected to interview?
Students invited to interview will participate in MCG's standardized Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) process along with all other invited applicants per MCG protocol. An additional interview with the designated regional clinical campus leadership member will be incorporated into the scheduled interview day. You will not be required to attend anything additional outside of the scheduled interview experience.
Do regional clinical campuses participate in 3+ curriculum?
Yes. Accepted regional clinical pathway students will participate in the 3+ curriculum. After completion of the 18 month pre-clerkship curriculum on the Augusta Campus, regional campus students transfer and complete the remainder of their education on the designated regional clinical campus. Given the in-person requirements for the combined MD/MBA dual degree, regional clinical campus students are unable to receive their MBA from Augusta University.
Can I switch to another campus if I am accepted?
MCG Regional Clinical Pathway students are expected to attend the assigned clinical campus as designated at the time of admission consideration. In extenuating circumstances, Regional Clinical Pathway students may request re-assignment to another clinical campus, per MCG policy, under one of the following conditions:
What is the benefit of selecting a regional clinical campus?
Students accepted into the pathway will receive mentorship, one-on-one clinical teaching, and experiences tailored to the local communities of each regional clinical campus.
Qualified regional clinical campus pathway applicants are given admissions preference by the MCG admissions committee.
What happens if I am not selected as a regional clinical campus pathway student?
Applicants who are not selected into the regional clinical campus pathway will still be reviewed by the MCG admissions committee for acceptance consideration into any of MCG's 4-year campuses.
