“Michelle Sweat, MSN, RN, CCRN, was named Manager of Nursing Education and Research in January 2020. She has been with Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) since 1995 where she has held multiple leadership positions. She first joined AUMC as a staff nurse on a medical surgical floor and joined the Medical ICU team in 1998. During her tenure at AUMC she has been a Charge Nurse and a member of the Rapid Response Team. She is active in Shared Governance where she served on the Shared Governance Education Council since 2006 and served in the roles of secretary, co-chair and chair. In 2008, she accepted the MICU Educator role and in 2016 accepted the Clinical Outcomes Manager Role for the ICU/ED/BH Division.
Michelle received both her BSN and MSN from Augusta University. She is a member of AACN and received the Spirit of Nursing Award in 2009 from the Georgia Nurses Association. She obtained her Critical Care Nursing certification in 2016.”

“Jenny joined MCG in 1995 and two years later, moved from the School of Nursing to the IACUC office. In the 23 years that Jenny has served as the IACUC Coordinator, she has been responsible for initiating many major changes to the IACUC program and its administration. These include establishing an occupational health program for animal users, the transition from paper to on-line protocol submissions and involvement in six successful AAALAC reaccreditations of our animal care program. During this time, as IACUC Chairs have come and gone, Jenny has gracefully adapted to having a new manager every few years, providing stability and continuity in our animal care program. She is a staunch defender of animal welfare and her in depth understanding of federal and USDA regulations and their application is invaluable. Members of the IACUC rely on her for training and take advantage of her knowledge to keep Augusta University compliant. Many investigators seek out Jenny for advice on how to develop and amend their protocols and are impressed not only by her insight and efficiency, but also by her positive attitude and willingness to help. This consideration for others extends beyond her role as IACUC coordinator as Jenny is a friend and supporter of many current and past MCG employees and anyone who has visited the IACUC office is aware of her compassion for animals, especially her “family” of terriers.”

“Wanda started working at Augusta University in July, 1990 and has been with the Division of Sponsored Programs Administration (DSPA) since December, 1994. During her time at AU she has served under four presidents, three interim presidents, and five vice presidents for research. Wanda has managed all facets of the Intramural Grants Program (IGP) sponsored by the Sr. Vice President for Research for the last twenty-three years. Over that time, the program has disbursed more than $14M to university faculty. She has also administered the Research Incentive Program over the last eighteen years, which has distributed over $23M to university researchers to further support their research efforts.Wanda supports Augusta University’s various missions and routinely demonstrates this not just in her work, but in all the volunteer activities that she participates in across campus. “Robert Steel started his career at AUMC in the Facilities Preventive Maintenance shop and wanted to get some experience so he could get a better job. 30 years later, he is still here and continues to make the Facilities Department better. Robert was a quick learner and was promoted to a Facilities Specialist II and then several years later, was promoted again to a Facilities Specialist III to become the lead mechanic for the HVAC/Mechanical Shop. Robert continued to grow and showed he was a leader, not only for the Facilities Department, but for the entire health system. He was promoted again to his current role of Facilites Manager where he oversees all of the A U Health outside buildings and manages the nights & weekend shifts. He is a true philosophical short-stop, equally comfortable discussing Aquinas, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, or Rawls, and a dynamic teacher whether the classroom is filled with freshman, philosophy minors, or medical students. He has for years led a team of undergraduates to the regional Ethics Bowl, where Augusta University has come out winning many debates with larger and more established philosophy programs. And he is the anchor of the bioethics programs at Augusta University, serving not only on the Hospital Ethics Committee and IRB, but is leading the instruction in the foundations course for our graduate certificate in bioethics.
