The Chemical Safety Office (CSO) is committed to providing a safe laboratory environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Our goal is to minimize the risk of injury or illness to laboratory workers by ensuring that they have the training, information, support, and equipment needed to work safely in the laboratory.

We work closely with outside agencies, including the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and the Augusta/Richmond County Fire Department (for emergency response operations involving chemical-related fires or spills that require level A support). We liaison with Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during institutional and laboratory inspections for regulatory compliance. In addition, we produce and provide all reports and documentation as required under EPD/EPA, the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Division, and the Board of Regent's of the University System of Georgia's Environmental Health & Safety Office.
