What degree programs are available within the Department of Music?
Bachelor of Arts – designed for students who wish to major in music but also wish to explore other liberal arts areas outside of music
Bachelor of Music in Music Education – upon graduation, students in this program are certified to teach in Georgia public schools (K-12, vocal and instrumental)
Bachelor of Music in Performance (vocal, instrumental, keyboard and jazz studies tracks) - this program is designed for students whose primary focus is performance and wish to continue with graduate studies in their area
Minor in Music – intended for students who have participated in musical ensembles in high school and wish to continue their studies on the collegiate level
I am not a music major or a music minor. Can I still participate in one of the ensembles?

Can I continue private lessons while in college?
Yes, but you must be either a music major or a music minor.
What is the music minor?
The music minor is a 15 hour degree that includes 3 semesters of private applied study in your area of choice, 4 semesters of ensemble participation and courses in Music Theory, Ear-Training and Sight-Singing and Music Literature. The music minor is intended for students who have participated in musical ensembles in high school and wish to continue their studies in college while majoring in a different field.
Are the Fine Arts practice rooms for general use?
Yes, all AU students can use the practice rooms for individual practice. We have a total of 13 practice rooms and each contain a piano. Two of those rooms have grand pianos that are reserved for use by piano majors.
Can I attend Augusta University performances?
Yes, all AU students can attend any AU music event for free with their valid student ID.
How do I apply to the Department of Music?
The first step is to apply to Augusta University through the Admissions Office. You must also submit the Department of Music application and upload an audition video for consideration.
Are scholarships available to music students?
Yes, all music majors are encouraged to audition for a number of competitive awards ranging from $300 to $3000 per academic year.
