a commitment to research and will help meet the health care needs of a widely dispersed
and highly diverse population.

Citizenship
Applicants do not need to be Georgia residents, but must either be a U.S. citizen
or a permanent resident.
MCG Prerequisites
Applicants must complete each of the following:
Biology
One academic year of General Biology or Zoology with lab (2 semesters).
If a student places out of general biology using AP credit and chooses to use the
AP credit and not take a general biology course in college, must substitute one academic
year of advanced Biology courses. Students must complete the laboratory requirement
in college.
Chemistry
One academic year of Chemistry, Of the year, one semester must be Organic Chemistry and one semester must be Biochemistry.
AP credit may NOT be used to place out of this requirement.
Physics
One academic year of Physics with 2 semesters of lab.
AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.
English
One academic year of English, English-based Composition, Writing, Literature, or Communication are acceptable; Humanities
courses may be used to meet one semester of this requirement.
AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.
Statistics
One semester of Statistics (may be Biostatistics, Probability or equivalent)
AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.

Apply
Applicants must follow the Medical College of Georgia application process, which includes
the following:
Submit an AMCAS application and indicate “Combined MD-PhD” as the program choice.
Applicants should demonstrate academic coursework rigor and breadth and have longitudinal
clinical/healthcare and research experiences that show a commitment to an academic
/ biomedical research career. MD/PhD applicants must fulfill the Medical College of
Georgia (MCG) admission requirements, as well as demonstrate a strong intellectual
curiosity and passion for research.
Submitted letters of reference should also include those from research mentors.

MCAT Scores
Submit MCG Admissions Secondary Application. Applicants will be notified by MCG's
Admissions Office to complete a secondary application after the AMCAS application
is received.
Note: Current medical students are encouraged to apply for the MD/PhD program after
completion of years one, two or three. Visit our Flex Entry webpage for more information.
Interview Process
MD-PhD Program applicants invited for interview will be notified via email by the
MD/PhD Program Office. MD-PhD Program applicants not being considered for the MD-PhD
program will still be considered by the MD Admissions Committee as traditional applicants
to the MD Program only.
