The association between length and number of deployments on the emotional health and behavior of children and adolescents in military families

The purpose of our study is to investigate the impact that parental military deployment has on the psychological and social functioning of their children. More specifically, we intend to consider the possible association between the number and phases/stages of deployment (pre, current, reintegration, and post deployment) and emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents. Previous studies identify lack of family support and parental stress as additional risk factors for child dysfunction when one parent is deployed away from the home. Our goal is to add to the information currently available in order to improve our ability to identify children and families that may require additional services during these times.
