There are three key aims of this project: First aim: to institute a screening model using immunoglobulin G (IGG) serology for Chagas disease presence in Latino children living in the Augusta, Georgia. To be eligible for testing, children will be recognized to have been born and raised in a Chagas disease endemic area or have history of living in a chagas endemic area for 6 months or longer. Second aim: is to assess the seroprevalence of Chagas disease in these children. Third aim: to increase awareness of Chagas disease among pediatric healthcare providers and high-risk communities in the state of Georgia by using this project as a platform for dissemination of information among those serving communities at highest risk. Pediatric Health care providers can then motivate at-risk individuals to obtain screening and to pursue follow-up for treatment.
