Analysis of post-surgical outcomes in Medicaid patients versus the general population following primary knee arthroplasty

The purpose of this study is to examine if Medicaid/underserved patient have different postsurgical outcomes after primary knee surgery compared to patients with Medicare or private insurance within the Brunswick Southeast Hospital System. Data from surveys distributed to post-surgical patients and complications shortly after surgery will be reviewed to determine if there is a significant difference between populations.This data will help orthopedic surgeons tailor their treatments to have more optimal outcomes and higher patient satisfaction based on personal socioeconomic factors such as lack of access to medications, transportation, and longer wait times between appointments.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Inclusion criteria: 1) Must have primary knee surgery at least 2 years prior with follow up 3) Medicaid patients treated in Brunswick Southeast Hospital System 4) Medicare or privately insured patients treated Exclusion Criteria: 1)Any surgeries or procedures within last 5 months outside surgery 2) Pregnant or undergoing fertility treatment
