Breast and Ovarian Cancer in African American Women: Intergenerational Cancer Prevention
African American women are at higher risk for late diagnosis of cancer and are more likely to die from cancer than women of other races. More prevention strategies are needed to decrease these health disparities. This research will implement targeted cancer prevention behaviors (tobacco cessation [quitting the use of tobacco], and breastfeeding) in pregnant and postpartum African American women in the CSRA, and will examine how these actions may reduce the risk of cancer for both mother and baby.
Eligibility Criteria
- Inclusion: - Females aged 18+years old, English speaking, no obvious cognitive impairments and able to answer a written survey, either independently or with assistance. - Residents of the CSRA - In the second trimester of pregnancy or up to one year postpartum - African American Exclusion Criteria: - Males - Women who are beyond one year postpartum
