Clinical Trial

Rostock International Parkinson’s Disease Study - An international, multicentre, epidemiological observational study

Parkinson?s disease (PD) is one of the most common neurological disorders, affecting approximately 1% of individuals older than 60 years of age. While there is not a clear cause for the disease, it is increasingly suggested that PD has important genetic factors contributing to its development. Participants will be genetically tested for LRRK2 and GBA mutations. If genetic testing results for LRRK2 and GBA are negative and the participant is clinically diagnosed with PD and is willing to undergo further genetic screening, 68 PD associated genes (?PD panel?) will also be genetically analysed. The purpose of this study is to identify 1500 LRRK2 (Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 gene) positive Parkinsons disease patients.
