Students in Augusta University’s Doctor of Philosophy with a major in Computer and Cyber Sciences program will complete 72 credit hours, with a minimum of 36 hours of coursework and a minimum of 36 hours of dissertation research. Throughout the program, which is designed to be completed in four to five years, students will be exposed to foundational and applied aspects of computing and cyber sciences as well as faculty research projects.
To complete the program, students are required to complete course requirements, pass a research proficiency examination, defend a thesis proposal, and have an approved dissertation.

Because the home of Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is the Georgia Cyber Center, the 332,000-square-foot facility that’s also home to a variety of public and private cybersecurity and computer science ventures, students in the doctoral program have the opportunity to interact with researchers and industry professionals in the same facility they attend class.
The Georgia Cyber Center includes incubator/accelerator space for entrepreneurial cyber security companies, research labs, a 340-seat auditorium for public and private events and one of the nation’s few state-owned cyber ranges.
The city of Augusta is home to several high profile cyber organizations, providing excellent networking and professional development opportunities.
Since its establishment in 2017, the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences has doubled its enrollment, tripled the size of its faculty and added new academic degrees.
Augusta University’s School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is located in close proximity to the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, the National Security Agency, Savanah River National Laboratory and the U.S. Army Cyber Command.
The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is located at the Georgia Cyber Center, providing students access to research labs, a cyber range and a host of research opportunities.
Doctoral students have the opportunity to work with and be supported by faculty in research projects from a variety of sponsors, such as the National Science Foundation, the National Security Agency, and the Department of Defense.

Large companies frequently start those with doctorates at higher-level positions. According to a recent study, 16% of positions at Google require a doctorate, while 10% of employees at tech disrupter companies like Airbnb, Facebook and Uber hold doctoral degrees.
The national average for PhDs in Computer Science is around $133,000. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 12% growth in computer and information technology occupations from 2018 to 2028, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.

GPA: Overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the Baccalaureate level calculated on all undergraduate work.
Degree Requirement: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Transcripts: Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended. Unofficial transcripts from US colleges and universities can be used in the admissions review process in lieu of official transcripts for this program.
Standardized Test Requirements: None are required for this program.
Letters of Recommendation: Recommendations from two individuals must be submitted through the application portal.
Resume: Applicants must submit a resume or curriculum vitae within the application portal.
Personal Statement: Applicants must submit a one page personal statement within the application portal.
