Here at the GPI we are always looking for volunteers to partner with us in making new discoveries about science and health. Questions about joining a clinical research study? Below you will find a list along with information about currently active studies at the GPI that are looking for volunteers.
Arterial Health in Diabetes
Premenopausal women and men age 18 years old and older are needed for a study examining the role of estrogen on arterial health in diabetes. Non-invasive measures of arterial health and a small blood sample will be taken on two occasions. Women who are pregnant may not participate in this study. Participants will be compensated for their time.
For more information, please contact Dr. Ryan Harris or Jacob Looney at (706) 721-5998
Avapro Salt Study
Research team members are seeking adult African American volunteers. Eligibility requirements are:
Participation in this study will involve four visits to the GPI over a period of five weeks. Participants will be required to eat a sodium-controlled diet (food is provided) for three days before testing day. They will also be taking a low dose blood pressure medication during one of the testing weeks. Participants will be compensated.
For more information, please call Kim Norland or Sandy Young-Mayes at (706) 721-1755
Mediators to Blood Pressure Measurements in a Stressful Situation
Healthy adults ages 18 to 50 are needed for a study to understand the impact that weight and body chemicals have on blood pressure measurements when a person is under stress through the use of ultrasound, non-invasive measures, blood samples, a stress response test, and ingestion of a study drug.
For more information, please contact Dr. Ryan Harris or Jacob Looney at (706) 721-5998
MMF Salt Study
Research team members are seeking adult African American volunteers. Eligibility requirements are:
Participation in this study will involve four visits to the GPI over a period of three weeks. Participants will be required to eat a sodium-controlled diet (food is provided) for three days before testing day. They will also be taking a low dose of an immunosuppressant medication during one of the testing weeks. Participants will be compensated.
For more information, please call Kim Norland or Sandy Young-Mayes at (706) 721-1755
Lung Study
Healthy adults and adults with chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) are needed for a study determining why lung disease often damages the heart. All participants will provide blood samples, have non-invasive arterial health measurements performed, and ingest a study drug.
For more information, please contact Dr. Ryan Harris or Jacob Looney at (706) 721-5998
Prazosin Salt Study
Research team members are seeking adult African American volunteers. Eligibility requirements are:
Participation in this study will involve four visits to the GPI over a period of five weeks. Participants will be required to eat a sodium-controlled diet (food is provided) for three days before testing day. They will also be taking a low dose of an alpha adrenergic receptor blocker medication during one of the testing weeks. Participants will be compensated.

Vitamin K Research Study in Adults
Adults ages 18 to 65 are needed for a nutrition study to determine whether vitamin K supplements taken each day for 2 months will improve the body's use of glucose (sugar).
Would the study be a good fit for me?
This study will be a good fit for you if you meet the following criteria:
What would happen if I took part in the study?
If you decide to participate in the study, you must:
Qualifying participants will learn about their health, diet, and exercise and will receive monetary compensation for each completed visit.
