The BSEd in Special Education is designed to prepare candidates to become able and responsive educators for students with special needs in grades prekindergarten through 12. Candidates will develop competencies through classroom instruction, observation, and participation with elementary, middle, and high school students.

Federal Regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v) and 34 CFR 66.43 (c) require disclosure by all educational institutions regarding educational requirements for programs leading to professional licensure or certification. Special Education Traditional
Formal admission into the educator preparation programs is separate from admission to Augusta University. Only candidates who satisfy the following criteria will be considered for admission into the BSEd in Special Education Educator Preparation Program:

Once candidates begin the program they will be expected to participate in the “cohort” online model and must follow the program outline. One cohort will begin in FALL with content concentration in ENGL or SS.
17 total classes (including EDTD 2011, elective, and student teaching)
All courses will be full-term and online. Student teaching will occur in a district school.
LA Content Certification will need one ENGL course (3 credit hours) and a combo of ENGL and SS (3 courses - 9 credit hours) for content/instruction courses.
SS Content Certification will need one SS course (3 credit hours) and a combo of ENGL and SS (3 courses – 9 credit hours) for content/instruction courses.
Elective – could be transferred or could take recommended LA or SS
EDTD 2011 – Ed Tech – needs to be taken if a comparable course doesn’t transfer.
