#StrongAugusta is an initiative led by Augusta University's Critical Event Preparedness and Response team and other community stakeholders to prepare for and respond to active shooter/hostile events using the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 3000 Standard.

The partnership involves multiple entities, including Augusta University Center of Operational Medicine, Augusta University Police Department, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and many others. The initiative includes coordination efforts and training to keep stakeholders safe and secure. #StrongAugusta is a work in progress and regularly scheduled full-scale exercises will continually test its plan and policies to reveal areas for improvement. Representatives from CEPaR and other stakeholders seek to share with the community what they are doing with others as a blueprint for similar initiatives.

Goals

  • Adopt the NFPA 3000 Standard for active shooter/hostile event response program.
  • Bring together many of the area's stakeholders to create a coordinated response plan in case of a hostile event.
  • Improve relationships between entities to better respond to emergencies.
  • Conduct community-wide training exercises to test the response plan and reveal areas that can be improved upon.
  • Make citizens better educated about emergency response so they can make good decisions to have a positive impact for their community.
  • Serve as a blueprint for other communities to follow in creating their own coordinated emergency response plans.

The community engagement, which kind of comes almost natural, is definitely a byproduct of what Augusta University is: What is encompassed within Augusta University, where we have impact within our community and the desire by administration that filters down to be engaged in our community.
