Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry & Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our department, as is true of every other department of psychiatry in the USA. At the time of this recording in July 2023, although we are emerging from the worst of COVID-19, we are welcoming our patients to practice basic infection control practices such as masks in our clinic, if they choose. We also routinely offer either face to face or telehealth services based largely upon the patient’s choice. If you are a patient, we invited you to look at the “Patients” Button on the department’s main web page. In addition to our standard services, this link describes care for eating disorders, dialectic behavior therapy (or DBT) for borderline personality disorder, ECT, transcranial magnetic stimulation, Addiction Medicine, among other approaches to care.
Our 2022 academic year has been very successful, and we are looking ahead towards an excellent 2023-2024. We had a full match in adult psychiatry, child psychiatry, health psychology and forensic psychology for the coming 2023-2024 year. Our graduates have moved on to careers in private group practice, fellowships, and academic positions. New faculty are joining our ranks this fall 2023 in general psychiatry, child psychiatry, and psychology. Departmental faculty have been actively publishing in the areas of schizophrenia, mood disorders, and in suicide. The department has been the recipient of generous charitable endowment to support the provision of psychotherapy to children, as delivered by our trainees. If you are a potential trainee, please look at the “Education” link the menu at the top of the main page.
We continue to recruit for excellent faculty candidates through the process of Conrad-30 J-1 Visa waivers and HHS Visa waiver. If you are a potential faculty recruit, please note that we are interested in assisting with an application for a J-1 Visa waiver or HHS Visa waiver for qualified psychiatrists, and that I would love to hear from you directly.
