Research Summary:
Hello! I'm Melinda McKew, a Research Associate in the Department of Family and Community
Medicine.
My research experience is informed by a diverse academic background, with degrees
in the humanities (BA in English, 2011), social sciences (MA in Women’s Studies, 2013),
and clinical sciences (BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology, 2020; MD expected in
2025). This, combined with nearly a decade in social justice and education, allows
me to bring a unique interdisciplinary approach to healthcare research. I’m particularly
passionate about research that addresses healthcare disparities and meets the needs
of underserved communities.
As a "Navy brat," I had the opportunity to live in five countries and two states before
settling in Augusta, Georgia, which I now call home. In my free time, I enjoy playing
pub trivia with my very locally-ranked team, "The Trash Pandas," hiking around Phinizy
Swamp (with an eye out for alligators from a safe distance), and re-watching my favorite
sitcom, “Parks and Recreation.”
