Stacey Thompson specializes is museum administration, exhibition development and collections management. Her interests include interactive exhibition development, the intersection of history and material culture, and corporate diversity and inclusion. She has worked as a museum professional for the past twenty years at institutions that include The American Museum of Natural History, The National Archives and Records Administration, the Morris Museum of Art and the Smithsonian National Anthropological Archives. She served as executive director of The Museum and Railroad Historical Center in Greenwood, SC and oversaw the restoration of seven historic train cars. She holds a BA in Studio Art and a B.S. in Anthropology from the College of Charleston. In addition, she holds a master's degree in Anthropology and Museum Studies from the George Washington University. She holds a Master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. She has published on the culture of budget tourism, the history of Greenwood, South Carolina and the history of the Augusta Arsenal. Thompson lives in Thomson, GA with her husband and three sons. She currently serves as Director of the Guard House Museum, Director of the Museum Studies Certificate and lecturer of Museum Studies at Augusta University.
Stacey Thompson's teaching interests include ensuring that the museum studies certificate program is successful both within the institution, and the community. Students are placed in mandatory internships providing them with experience prior to graduation and application to jobs in the field. Interests include teaching museum administration, exhibition development and collections management. A secondary teaching interest is in providing a solid four-field foundation in Anthropology to those students taking introductory anthropology classes at AU.
Stacey Thompson's research interests include museum focused research: interactive exhibition development, digital collection development and visitor experience. Anthropological research interests include the intersection of history and material culture, new world crossing theories, Paleolithic and Clovis technologies and corporate diversity and inclusion.
